In this course, we begin by examining electromagnetic waves and the electromagnetic spectrum, focusing on thermal radiation. We introduce the concept of the idealized blackbody, blackbody radiation, and blackbody radiation function, along with key principles such as the Stefan-Boltzmann lawPlanck’s law, and Wien’s displacement law.

The greenhouse effect serves as an example of the consequences of wavelength-dependent radiation properties.
